Free at Last
Naptime and bedtime have become quite the fight with Aidan lately. There is a lot of avoiding (Aidan runs around the house laughing madly and trying to hide) and crying (once we pick him up and drag him to his room). He usually spends awhile crying and/or playing after we leave him in his room to sleep. Yesterday at naptime he spent quite a bit of time talking and playing after his door was shut. I started to hear the doorknob jiggling. Aidan hasn't been able to open the doors at our house before because a) he is too short to get a good hold on them and b) they are round so even when he can get ahold of them it's very difficult for him to turn them. No more, though! I went upstairs to sit by his door for a few minutes and heard the doorknob jiggle again. After a few minutes of intense work, Aidan was free! He opened the door slowly and gave me a giant grin when he saw me sitting there. We made a quick trip to Target that night and got some safety doorknobs, though, so his prison is once again escape-proof. He was not happy about this development when I put him to bed. He tried the door once when I was getting him ready and was quite angry to discover he can no longer turn the knob.
